A Thing About That Kentucky County Clerk – The NY Times has an update on the latest in the case. My 2 cents: a detail that is generally skipped over is what Kim Davis actually wants. She isn’t trying to stop KY from issuing marriages licences to same-sex couples. She’s saying the county clerks’ names shouldn’t be on the marriage licences. That’s why she wouldn’t let her clerks issue the licences in her stead – her name would still be on them. Yes, we can still criticize Davis for being a homophobic bigot, but it’s important to be accurate in our criticisms rather than accidentally straw-manning our opponents.
