AI: Surprisingly Enjoyable
I’ve been trying to get my partner to watch District 9 this past week. He had a lot of preconceived notions about what the movie was about, and kept insisting that he wouldn’t like it. I made a deal: If he watched District 9, I’d watch any movie that he really likes that I have so far refused to watch.
Well, he loved District 9. He was surprised at how much he enjoyed it—he was completely enraptured by it! A couple of days later, we watched a movie that he loves but that I had preconceptions about: Dreamgirls. And it was fantastic.
What are some movies/books/music that you thought would not be good but found to be surprisingly enjoyable?
The Afternoon Inqueery (or AI) is a question posed to you, the Queereka community. Look for it to appear on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, at 3pm ET.
Little Children: I went to see it because it was nominated and I try to see all the nominees before the Oscars. I was expecting a dry suburban drama about adultery starring Kate Winslet; what I got was one of the most brilliantly dark satires I’ve ever seen.
*blush*
‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ (the film), which I found a thoroughly entertaining romp with stellar work from Mr. Grant. I even enjoyed it on a second viewing.
For some reason I put off reading The Hunger Games until earlier this year and immediately thought about how I could have been fangirling over it for the past four years.
Twilight.
I expected it to be crappy, and it was, but it was far more entertaining and (unintentionally) funny than I had expected.
Well, District 9 was also much better than I expected it to be. Need to watch Dreamgirls then and see if I like that one too 🙂
