AI: Reviewing The Year

Okay, so the end of the year is still two and a half weeks away, but a recent post by Leah Jane at The Quixotic Autistic has got me thinking back over 2012 and identifying the high and low points. I think it’s really important to acknowledge both sides of that – not drowning in all the bad things that might have happened, but also not being positive or optimistic to the point of denying yourself the right to feel bad about those things. I thought it would make an interesting AI question as well as something valuable to think about in general. Obviously top of everyone’s good list for 2012 will be the founding of a certain LGBTQ* themed spin-off of Skepchick, but feel free to elaborate beyond that.

What have been your high and low points of 2012? If possible, how are you hoping to replicate or prevent them respectively in the new year?

The Afternoon Inqueery (or AI) is a question posed to you, the Queereka community. Look for it to appear on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, at 3pm ET.

  1. High point? Fed Gov saying gender expression in work place is covered under existing sexual discrimination law. Also, seeing those two older women getting married after being together for decades. Made me cry!

Low point? Reading about trans people being murdered in broad daylight and nothing being done. That people fighting back are the ones going to jail.

Steps in the right direction, but so far still to go.
