AI: Unwanted Education

This semester, I’m taking what is probably the worst course I have to take in order to become a biologist: parasitology.

First class consisted of an hour and a half of Ascaris lumbricoides, look it up (or, you know, don’t). First month will consist solely of helminthes, which are worm-like parasites. And the professor comes nowhere near the social issues that are involved or the awareness and education aspects, which could make for an acceptable class.

I mean, yes, it’s important, yes, it’s a knowledge that, as a general biologist, I should have, but… ugh. I wish I could just not. Especially considering I’m going to work with systematic an evolution of Fungi!

So my question to you is:

Is there a part of your education you find (or wish that was) unnecessary?

The Afternoon Inqueery (or AI) is a question posed to you, the Queereka community. Look for it on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 3pm ET.
